Prayer is sometimes portrayed as a practice that is only effective for serious and very religious people.  True Christianity however, is not about religion, it's about a relationship.  Prayer is simply conversation with God.

When you talk to God however, remember who you are talking to. God is not someone whom you can "pull the wool over His eyes".  He knows everything about you.  So when you talk to God be honest.  Even though He knows everything about you already.  He appreciates the fact that you want to have a real relationship with Him.

Get ready though because when you start getting real with God, He'll start getting real with you. All those things we like to overlook about ourselves, God does not so easily dismiss.  God does not reveal our sin in order to leave us wallowing in guilt and shame though.  He allows us to feel those things so we'll do something about it.  We can't do enough good things or ignore our sins enough to get rid of them though.

The only thing we can do to be free of guilt and shame is to confess them to God. The Bible says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9) Furthermore God promises that, "there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..."(Romans 8:1)

Who else can do that for you? If God can do this why wouldn't you want to talk to Him? If you haven't done so already talk to God.  Get real with Him.  Ask Him to forgive your sins and be free from the weight of guilt.  When you do so you will encounter God's merciful grace and freedom.  You will begin to know a life of hope and you will be ready to live out the purpose you were created for!
