Description of LifeM.A.P.

At Parrish United Methodist Church, we use LifeM.A.P. as a Bible-reading guide which draws us closer to our Lord by reading, journaling, praying, and, weekly interaction with others who are reading the same passages. The daily reading schedule leads us through the reading of the Bible over the period of a year.

The letters in the acronym M.A.P. stand for Message, Application, and Prayer. Participants are asked to make note of any verse or a passage that 'jumps out' at them during their daily reading. After the reading, readers are encouraged to write down the scripture and the following experience in their LifeM.A.P. journal:

Message a short, literal description of the main thought or action taking place in the passage.

Application answering of the questions; How does God want me to apply this passage to my life? What do I need to do or change as a result of this reading?

Prayer writing out a thoughtful prayer of thanks to God for His message to you and asking Him to give you wisdom and strength to apply the message to your life.

Each week, in a small group setting, individuals meet to share their Bible-reading experience and to share in the experiences of others. Participants report that this sharing of a common Biblical experience enhances their understanding and their understanding of others.

The Bible-reading guide was first developed by Wayne Cordeiro of New Hope Resources in Honolulu, Hawaii. The LifeM.A.P. Journal that we use is an adaptation of the guide by Pastor Matthew Hartsfield from Van Dyke United Methodist Church in Lutz, Florida.

LifeM.A.P. is more of a Bible experience than a Bible study. God speaks to each of us through his scripture; it is up to us to read, listen, and obey.

Join us as we actively pursue the life-changing power of Jesus Christ by reading God's word, daily.

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
